Tired Space Explorer

Feeling somewhat tired this morning. Guess why? See previous post. Playing with this new toy meant that I didn't get to bed until 01:00 AM.

Can't wait to load up the rest of the Star Wars add ons and show Frodo :-) Unfortunately it's Fish Tank Cleaning and Filling cracks in doors ready for painting scheduled for the rest of the week :-(

Speaking of Frodo, we had a meeting with Parent Partnership yesterday, where we decided that the best course of action for Frodo was to arrange for him to have a Statutory Assessment. This should assess his educational needs and determine whether or not he can cope and make progress in a mainstream school (which at the moment he is doing). If he can, then his school will HAVE to provide the resources. If he can't then this should help decide what's best for him. This will all take a while to arrange (i.e. the assessment won't be until after he goes back to school) but at least we've started the ball rolling.

I downloaded it and played for a few minutes but kept getting frozen in the great void that is space or fried by flying too close to celestial bodies. I'll have to read the instructions and give it another try.

Running the demo (Help=>Demo) makes moving around look very easy, however it is quite tricky.

I found that setting some of labelling options in (View=>Locations I think?) helped a lot. Name tags appear in space for celestial objects, so that you can get an idea of where you are and what's moving around you.

Also speeding up the time to a fairly fast speed is quite good for seeing objects whizzing about, and planets spinning.

If you want to see some man made space hardware without having to set up an add-on hit return and enter Huygens (Cassini
hit tab to make the selection then select 'Go To Selection' and you should see something. End and Home are quite good for backing off an object, or moving closer to it. I think that * looks directly behind you. Toggle again to look the other way was quite helpful.
Arrow keys rotated the object.

What I couldn't do was fly around something (i.e. orbit it) once I got there.

Like you said, reading the instructions might help!
