Birthday Meal

Off out for a meal with Novelist Supermum tomorrow night to celebrate my Birthday. Grandma Gandalf is baby sitting.

Hopefully we've found a restaurant that doesn't have Sky TV. Hopefully there'll be enough staff on who don't have an interest in the football match that's going on in Athens. Hopefully we'll get some decent service.

Thanks guys - As it turned out we did have a great night out.

The local bars had been packed full of red shirts since about 16:00, but by the time we left the house at 19:00 the places that didn't have TV sets had emptied.

There was only a couple of people in the Penny Lane Wine bar so we had a drink there before moving onto the Alma de Santiago restaurant.

The manager was an Evertonian - so he wasn't watching the match either.

There was only one other couple dining in there so we almost had th e whole place to ourselves. The waitress turned out to be from Newcastle, so the service was OK. We could hear that a TV was showing the match in the kitchen, but it didn't appear to affect the food - which was excellent.

The bar is something to be seen - like a Spanish Church on the inside. There are also stuffed animal heads everywhere. There's also a giant mural of a chimpanzees head on the wall in the dining area. The picture doesn't do it justice - it's surprising how quick you get used to it when you're sitting there.

On the way home we spotted a fight taking place on the other side of Allerton road as some bad losers had decided to kick each others heads in. The Police were on the scene and chasing them within a couple of minutes.

Stopped off in the newest wine bar close to home (the Gallery?) for a bottle of Italian beer. The place was full of "footballers wives" types drinking shots - although they clearly weren't used to doing this.

On the whole (apart from the idiots fighting) it was a really pleasant evening. To top it all we didn't have to put up with any awful renditions of the Theme from Carousel on the way home :-)
