The fix is Customise => Settings => Layout => Edit HTML => Revert Widget Templates to default.
This brings back the dates.
Unfortunately I've now got to check the widgets and put any settings back that have changed. Fonts may have changed, but I can live with that. The Label cloud is the one that really need adjusting.
